Michael Russell MSP with pupils from Rockfield and St Columba's Primary School at today's cup draw |
The draw for the second round of the
Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup was made on Monday May 14 by Argyll and Bute Council leader-elect, Roddy McCuish assisted by Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell.
The
second round brings in the ten Orion Premiership sides along
with the six teams who won through in the first round.
Local Primary School
pupils from both Rockfield and St Columbas watched the draw as it
happened in Oban, where the 106th Camanachd Cup Final is taking place at Mossfield Park on Saturday September 15.
Mossfield last hosted shinty’s premier event in 2009
where Fort William defeated Kyles Athletic with a dramatic last
minute winner from Fort William’s James Clark. This year a crowd
of over 2,000 is expected with many more thousands watching from home live on BBC Scotland.
Newtonmore have been handed a tricky draw as they take on north division one third-place side Beauly, while there are all-premier ties - tough ones to call at that - as Kilmallie take on near-neighbours Fort William at Canal Park and Kinlochshiel host Kingussie in what should be a fascinating contest.
Glenurquhart are unlikely to have it all their own way when they take on 1990 cup winners Skye away on the Misty Isle.
South division one leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll might scent a whiff of a chance as they host Kyles, with the Tighnabruaich men struggling for consistency at present.
And the redoubtable Bute - tough to beat as they always are - will not be relishing a trip to face north division one club Lochaber at Spean Bridge, where the home side pushed Kingussie all the way in last week's MacAulay Cup tie.
As always, Shintyfan will be taking a keen interest - and it's going to be interesting...
The
full draw is as follows:
Lovat v Kilmory
Lochaber
v Bute
Glasgow
Mid Argyll v Kyles Athletic
Newtonmore
v Beauly
Skye
v Glenurquhart
Inveraray
v Strathglass
Kilmallie
v Fort William
Kinlochshiel
v Kingussie
The matches are due to be held
on Saturday June 2.
