DRY FOR CELTIC FINAL...SO FAR, SO GOOD

Plenty of shinty action this weekend to enjoy - provided the thundery showers don't put paid to the prospect of them being played.

The big cup game this weekend is the AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup Final, but more of that later...

Kyles travel to Kiltarlity to play title rivals Lovat in the Orion Premiership, and this should be a great one to watch. After struggling to find goals, Kyles suddenly discovered four in the one game last time out a fortnight ago versus Inveraray. Three of these came from the Whyte brothers - one each. Lovat have been going along steadily in the league, and are very tough to beat, particularly in their own backyard.

Elsewhere, Kingussie will find it tough against Kilmallie, on recent form at any rate, while Fort William versus Kinlochshiel has the makings of a good match, with Shintyfan's prediction being a Fort victory. We'll see.

Bottom side Bute's game with table-topping Newtonmore has been postponed due to the weather.

AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup Final
There was massive frustration and disappointment last week when the Celtic Cup Final was postponed early on Saturday morning.
The new Strachur pitch drains well, however, and by the scheduled throw-up time the weather was fine and the pitch in good nick.

Anticipation is building, and if anything it is even greater after last weekend's false start. South first division Taynuilt, in the club's first senior final, can't wait to get stuck into premiership side Inveraray. Few are giving them much hope in the final. But I suspect that's just how Taynuilt's manager Davie Thomson likes it. He has a sprinkling of experience in his ranks, and if they can stiffen their defence, they'll have an opportunity.

It will be a fantastic occasion at this great new facility. If you haven't seen it yet or want to enjoy the final of shinty's oldest competition, why not get along to Strachurmore Sports Centre tomorrow. Throw-up 4pm; entry £10 including parking; under-15s free. Dunoon Grammar School pipe band will entertain while home baking, tea, coffee and burgers will be available.

And Shintyfan will keep you updated on weather conditions at the pitch throughout tomorrow.

Writing at 10pm on Friday night, the weather is dry overhead and has been since early evening. Looking good...

Sorry for the break in service - technical issues due to my router taking exception to a thunderstorm overhead last Friday.
