DOES YOUR CANDIDATE SUPPORT SHINTY?

With Scottish local authority elections coming up in May, do you know what  your candidates' views are on shinty, and what are their aspirations for the future of the sport in your area?

Holyrood and Westminster elections are often dominated by wider issues - in sporting terms this means that football hogs the urban agendas that predominate.

Think, though, about how much more shinty - the native sport to many voters across the country - matters on a local basis. Local authorities control a degree of grant funding; they administer planning matters; they manage sports facilities; and more significantly, their councillors live in the communities for whom shinty is important.

It is a fair bet that some will know little about the game, while some will never have heard of it.

Go on, ask them as they canvass for your vote.

Make shinty and local sports facilities a manifesto issue.
