The
Women’s
Camanachd
Association
(WCA)
is
delighted
to
announce
the
biggest
sponsorship
women’s
shinty
has
seen
with
the
world’s
leading seafood company,
Marine
Harvest,
pledging
nearly
£10,000
of
funding
over
the
next
three
years.
Additionally,
through
sportscotland’s
Sportsmatch
programme,
the
WCA
has
successfully
added
a
further
£2,000
for
the
development
of
the
women’s
game.
The
sponsorship
was
announced
this
afternoon
at
the
Scottish
Parliament
with
Minister
for
Commonwealth
Games
and
Sport,
Shona
Robison
MSP,
Marine
Harvest’s business support manager,
Steve
Bracken
and
WCA president,
Fiona
Mathie.
Speaking
about
the
sponsorship,
Fiona
Mathie,
President
of
the
Women’s
Camanachd
Association,
said:
“We
really
appreciate
the
sponsorship
from
Marine
Harvest,
not
only
has
it
given
us
the
chance
to
improve
the
development
of
women's
shinty
but,
through
our
successful
sportscotland
Sportsmatch
application,
it
has
also
enabled
us
to
take
this
money
further
and
run
two
development
camps.
These
camps
give
women
and
girls
from
all
over
Scotland
the
chance
to
improve
their
skills
and
take
these
skills
back
to
their
own
clubs.
The
money
will
also
help
us
promote
women's
shinty
and
increase
participation
levels,
ensuring
long
term
and
sustainable
benefits.
“The
continued support for the Marine Harvest Challenge Cup has enabled
the creation of a high level cup competition that without Marine
Harvest support would not be possible. The Women’s Camanachd
Association would like to thank Marine Harvest for its continued
support in women’s shinty.”
Steve
Bracken,
Marine
Harvest’s
Business
Support
Manager,
said,
“Since
1988,
Marine
Harvest
has
been
proud
to
sponsor
shinty
and
in
particular
to
see
the
sport
develop
and
new
teams
established.
So
we’re
really
pleased
that
for
the
first
time
we
are
sponsoring
the
Women’s
Camanachd
Association
with
the Marine
Harvest
Leagues,
the Marine
Harvest
Challenge
Cup
and
the Marine
Harvest
High
School
Girls
League.
"We
wish
the
WCA
every
success
and
to
see
the
Association
grow
from
strength
to
strength.”
Shona
Robison,
Minister
for
Commonwealth
Games
and
Sport,
said,
“I
very
much
welcome
the
announcement
made
today
by
Marine
Harvest
and
their
commitment
of
support
for
women’s
shinty
in
Scotland.
Shinty
is vitally important to the history and cultural heritage of many
Scottish communities but also to their futures going forward and I am
delighted to see the game being taken forward by girls and young
women across the country with the help from this significant funding
investment made today.
"Shinty
is one of Scotland’s oldest indigenous sports and the Scottish
Government is delighted to see it flourishing, helping girls and
young women live healthier and more active lives.”
