NEWTONMORE V KINGUSSIE - 1934 CAMANACHD CUP FILM

If you are in any way a fan of shinty, never mind the great Badenoch rivals of Newtonmore and Kingussie, you have to see this clip of a film shot, apparently, in 1934.
It shows a Camanachd Cup tie between the teams in which a replay was needed after fans invaded the pitch with Newtonmore 4-2 ahead. The replay ended in a 7-0 thumping win for Newtonmore.
It gives a fascinating glimpse into all sorts of things - from playing styles, shinty strips of the time, spectators' fashions, the number of spectators and the location.
  • So, where was the match played?
  • Do you recognise anyone in the film?
  • What was the reason for the pitch invasion, and why was the result not allowed to stand?
  • What memories are still around from the time?
It's great stuff.

The rights to the film are held by the National Library of Scotland and it is available at the Scotland on Screen archive by clicking here.

Any comments on the questions above, or on the fascinating seven minute film, are welcome.
